Description
KEMCOT is a specially designed chemical, in powder form, used to provide a chemical conversion coating against corrosion as well as an excellent adhesion for paint on aluminum and aluminum alloys.
KEMCOT can be used by immersion, brush-on or spray application which provides a golden iridescent film on the aluminum surface and aluminum alloys.
Specifications:
KEMCOT meets the requirements of MIL-DTL-81706B Type I Class 1A & 3 Form II (powder), MIL-DTL-5541F Type I Class 1A & 3 and DIN 50939/1996 (corrosion protection - chromating of aluminum).
Pre-Cleaning:
Before immersion in the KEMCOT tank, surfaces must be free from grease, soils and oxides. RADOL 22/22F (5% in the water at room temperature) is recommended for cleaning and deoxidizing. Parts must thoroughly be rinsed with clean water after cleaning. Rinse tanks should be kept pure and refilled daily.
Usage:
KEMCOT is normally used diluted with water in a concentration of 0,5 – 1%.
Mix until all solids are dissolved and ascertain the pH 1,5 – 2,1 by adding small amounts of ammonium hydroxide or nitric acid. The pH will probably be within the correct operating range without additions. The clean aluminum parts are immersed in the KEMCOT bath at room temperatures of about 30 seconds to 5 minutes depending on the aluminum alloy and the condition of the solution. For spray operations the contact time is 15-30 seconds. After treatment the parts should be rinsed thoroughly with water. First in water at ambient temperature and then with deionized water. The final dry-off may be accomplished by conventional methods; however, temperature during drying should not exceed 60oC.
Product properties:
Appearance : Dark orange - brown powder
